"Don't Cook Chicken in NyQuil" -- FDA, 9/15/22

Posted: 09/21/2022

Back in August we posted on our Facebook page about Pink Sauce, a condiment promoted and sold on Tik Tok with no FDA oversight. Once again, the FDA has had to issue warnings over a major food safety concern: people cooking chicken in NyQuil, and promoting what they call "sleepy chicken" on Tik Tok and other social media platforms.

The title of the FDA's article says it all..."A Recipe for Danger." Not only can heating up and altering medications have serious and deadly consequences, but the attention grabbing viral videos can put an immense amount of peer pressure on those with little or no food safety knowledge to replicate them.

It's important for us in the food industry to know what is being wrongly promoted online, and make sure that our teams all have a deep understanding and appreciation for keeping food safe…and keeping ourselves and customers safe with good food practices, too.
